Rahman's soundtrack for this 1995 romantic comedy underscores the fact that he's equally gifted at concise songwriting and atmospheric composition. "Hai Rama" and "Pyar Yeh Jane Kaise" both make arresting use of swirling, evocative sonic textures and murmur-to-roar dynamic shifts, while the instrumental "Spirit of Rangeela" runs on hurtling rhythms and dramatic, serpentine orchestrations. But the hypnotic, propulsive melodic turns of "Tanha Tanha" and "Rangeela Re" are just as commanding, especially with beloved veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle coming out of retirement to sing them.
